This was a nutty week, for sure. I’m coming in to the weekend grateful to have 2 days to reset, to have a bit of respite before taking a deep breath and plunging in (again) next week. I know it will be brief, so I hope to take the time I need to get some rest (literally and figuratively). I hope to catch up on the last of the NaBloPoMo posts (still forging through!) and spend some time doing things just for me. In addition to, well, catching up on the to-do list. Because let’s get real – many of the things I put on there this week were simply moved from day to day to day.
So, today, I’ll leave you with this thought from Alice Griffin (who writes a lovely Substack, which you may want to check out):
“Steadiness, slowness, appreciation, a sense of time having no hold. And silence. Silence is the order of the day. It’s easy to fear it—always rushing to fill the gaps—but silence is where beauty is for me. Within silence is where my breathing slows and my soul comes alive. In silence I am able to both meet myself and see others.”
Even if you have a bonkers weekend of kid activities and holiday things-to-do and other life stuff, I hope you get a minute or two of silence for yourself.
Happy weekending Anne! I vote for doing the “just for me” things and leaving the “to do” list things for next week.
I would vote for that, too, save for the fact that there are some things that must be done over the weekend (time-sensitive tasks related to studies I’m running). That said, a family Zoom and potential couch time today will make up for that. 🙂
Have a nice restful weekend, Anne! I don’t have a bonkers weekend, but I do have a relatively busy one. Should be fun!
You have a busy life, Nicole! I love reading about your adventures in your new home. 🙂
I hope you have a quiet weekend, a respite from the busy busy busy.
I have Fridays off from work, so did a bunch of running around doing errands and so on. Then my husband’s company holiday party was last night. So now it’s Saturday morning and I’m ready for a quiet weekend. We’re putting the tree up, I’m starting on my Christmas cards, and we have a bit of finale TV to watch – The Great British Baking Show and The Golden Bachelor. Two very different series!
It is oh-so-nice to be able to run errands during the week. I’m glad you’re past the holiday party and on to a home-focused weekend. Sounds lovely to me!
I hope you have a weekend of rest and stillness, steadyness, and silence, Anne. We sometimes have to work these things into our days, but we’re better for them.
I am impressed with how much you’ve been showing up here lately and it’s a delight to see your posts pop up in my Feedly 🙂 Keep it going!
Trying to forge on through (ha, I typed “forget” then had to correct it) until Friday. Then I will have completed 30 daily posts. And then I’ll dial it down a bit… but I think I will still post more frequently than before! It’s so much fun to connect more regularly. <3
It was not a restful weekend, but it was fun and productive. The Christmas tree is up! Holiday cards are ordered! I have written out my to-do list for the week! The dog got a bath! But there wasn’t nearly enough napping on the couch with the kitty.
Ah, the joys of the holiday season when you have a new job and a life. 🙂 You have a list, though, and cards on the way. I vote for more couch time in the evenings this week. Seems like that’s reasonable after the busy busy weekend you had.
I had a full Saturday last weekend with no plans, so I built out a very strict to-do list to get a ton of stuff done around my apartment that I had been lagging with. It felt so good! But also tiring, ha.
Isn’t it weird how tiring a day like that can be? I may not be interacting with anyone, but boy, it can drain your energy.
